Mariana Mazzucato is Professor is Economics at the University of Sussex, where she holds the RM Phillips Chair in Science and Technology Policy (in SPRU). Her influential work on ‘The Entrepreneurial State’ argues that in innovation the State has not just fixed market failures but actively created the vision, and invested in the most risky and uncertain areas.
Geoff Mulgan is Chief Executive of Nesta. From 2004-2011 Geoff was the first Chief Executive of the Young Foundation, which became a leading centre for social innovation, combining research, creation of new ventures and practical projects. He has had various roles in the UK Government and was the founder and director of the think-tank Demos. He is currently Chair of the Studio Schools Trust and the Social Innovation Exchange.
Roberto Mangabeira Unger is an internationally renowned and influential philosopher and social and political theorist. He currently holds the position of Roscoe Pound Professor of Law at Harvard University. Previous to this he served as the minister for strategic affairs in the Brazilian Government of President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, from 2007 until 2009.
Frances Westley is a renowned scholar and consultant in the areas of social innovation, strategies for sustainable development, strategic change, visionary leadership and organisational collaboration. She joined the University of Waterloo as the JW McConnell Chair in Social Innovation in July 2007. In this capacity she is one of the principle leads in a Canada wide initiative in social innovation, SiG (Social Innovation Generation), a cross sectoral partnership to build capacity for social innovation in Canada funded by the J.W McConnell Family Foundation, University of Waterloo and the Ontario Government.
